Catastrophic Fire Danger - Wimmera Region | Tuesday 13th February 2024

This message is not going to be relevant to all students, but it may be relevant to some - a Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating has been forecast for the Wimmera region for tomorrow, Tuesday 13 February 2024.

A Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating forecasts the most dangerous fire weather conditions and greatest risk of uncontrollable bush and grass fires.

You should stay up to date by ensuring you have two reliable sources of information including the VicEmergency app, www.emergency.vic.gov.au or your local broadcaster.

On a Catastrophic Fire Danger day (formerly known as a Code Red day), VicEMergency advises people to stay safe by doing the following:

  • Leave bushfire risk areas either tonight or early tomorrow morning. In particular, if you are located in Rainbow, Warracknabeal, Minyip, Murtoa and Rupanyup.

  • Do not visit parks and forests in the Wimmera region tomorrow – they are not safe places to be and will be closed to the public. This includes Grampians National Park, Little Desert National Park, Wail State Forest, Grange State Park and Mt Arapiles State Park.

  • Pack an overnight bag with essential supplies including provisions for pets.

  • Check whether schools, childcare, transport and health services are impacted and adjust travel accordingly.

  • Prepare for power outages and check on vulnerable neighbours.

Even if you don’t live in a bushfire-risk area you should get prepared for extreme heat and potential power outages – many areas of Victoria are also deemed a total fire ban tomorrow.

Stay Safe.
